Local is Better (Part 2): J.Q. Dickinson Saltworks

As a designer I truly believe that design shapes our lifestyles. Design doesn't only embody furniture selection, or materials, but it also comes down to what we choose to use in our kitchens. Its the embodiment of health and wellness. When we make careful decisions everything falls into place from our health, to our values, to our wellbeing, to the aesthetics - design comes full circle for us.

The Flavors

After enjoying the process of how its made, its time to explore the flavors and the benefits of the salt at J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works.  Another reason why unrefined salt is the best kind is due to its health benefits. Unrefined salt is high in mineral content, such as magnesium and calcium, that our bodies need. You can read more about it on the Health Radar.

-Smoked salt

-Salt with ramps (ramps is a WV native plant that adds a nice onion taste to the salt)

-Red salt

-Salted Caramel

The thoughtfully crafted wooden tools you saw through out the tour were made by Allegheny Treenware

The neat logo, which is how I found out about them, was done by a local graphic designer - Mesh

Monthly events are held on site serving fresh farm-to-table food cooked by local WV chefs!
